ImNO 2022 Educational Outreach Challenge

ImNO 2022 is proud to coordinate our first educational challenge!

Ideas and Goals

Main concept: Teams will be given a science topic on Day 1 of the symposium. They must come up with a 3-minute presentation on Day 3 of the symposium to explain the topic to a group of children from grades 4-8. It is up to the team to decide on the most effective strategy for the presentation.

What is the goal? The goal is to increase the participant's ability to explain a scientific concept in a way that children can understand.  It is often difficult to convey research to an audience that is unfamiliar with the area.  A secondary goal is to promote science to children.

Participation and Registration

Who can participate? Anyone registered in the symposium can participate.  Enrollment is limited, so sign up soon using the form at this link.  Symposium participants can sign up as a team or as individuals. Bonus points will be awarded if teams consist of people from different institutions or individuals sign up and they will be teamed up with people from different institutions.

Event Timeline/Details

How will the event be structured within the symposium?  Registered partipants will receive a welcome email 3 days prior to the symposium.  This email will include confirmation of their team and rules.  An orientation session will be held on March 22nd, during the mid-day break, when teams will meet and receive their assigned scientific topics. The teams will present their work during the education challenge session on the last day of the symposium.
